We are located atop Caneel Hill just outside the town of Cruz Bay on St John in the United States Virgin Islands.
Originally constructed as a single family home in the 1950s, Asolare once played host to elite St John residents such as Laurence Rockefeller. In 1994, entrepreneur Winston Bennett converted the home into a restaurant and thus Asolare was born. For the past sixteen years we have continued to play host to visitors and residents of St John and strive to live by our motto: Asolare... the Purposeless, Leisurely and Agreeable Passing of Time.
Matt Kidd was born in Greensboro, NC. His father's profession led to him spending a portion of his childhood in both England and Italy, which ignited his interest in the culinary field at a very young age.
Mr. Kidd received his Associate of Fine Arts degree from Guilford Technical Community College in 1998. He was already employed in the culinary field while obtaining his degree, and soon after graduating he was promoted to his first Executive Chef position.
Mr. Kidd's career has taken him to a variety of interesting places, and he has the opportunity of holding positions at several outstanding establishments, including the world renowned Kiawah Island Golf Resort. He is very excited to bring his talents and diversity to the island of St. John and Asolare.
